April 13, 2019 – “The Settlement around the Big Spring” Historic Tuscumbia Free Walking Tour, Cold Water Books, 101 W. 6th St., Tuscumbia, walking down into Spring Park where the focus will be on the park and the earliest stories from that period (about 1815 or 1817). Early American Indian stories that have been passed down will be shared, along with stories about the town’s first white settlers and how they lived, along with interesting activities of the days of the first settlers. Horse racing, duels, and other, varied entertainment stories will be presented by the guide. This tour is led by local historian John McWilliams. This is the 1st of 4 April Walking Tours that will begin at 10 a.m. each Saturday morning. Handouts will be provided each Saturday.
